Vande Bharat First AC Sleeper Coach
India Railway's ambitious Vande Bharat Sleeper project is moving closer to reality.
Kinet Railway Solutions, an Indo-Russian joint venture, has unveiled the design of the First AC coach of the upcoming sleeper version at the International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025 in New Delhi.
Vande Bharat Sleeper Coach Design Unveiled at IREE 2025
At the IREE 2025 event, Kinet Railway Solutions showcased a full-scale mock-up of the First AC compartment of the Vande Bharat Sleeper.
The coach features a modern, minimalistic design with neutral tones and subtle metallic accents. According to reports, the interiors were developed with Indian artists to add a touch of cultural warmth and identity.
Each berth comes with reading lights, USB charging ports, and convenient storage spaces. Designers have also used every inch smartly — for instance, the space under the stairway to the upper berth doubles as a mini bedside shelf for books or phones.
Evgeny Maslov, the chief designer of the project, said the goal was to create “a calm, airy environment that feels accessible to everyone.”
Project Director Nishunk Garg added that the Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Latur is being upgraded to begin full-scale production by late 2025, with the first prototype expected by June 2026.
Kinet Railway Solutions has been tasked with building 120 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, totaling 1,920 coaches, for Indian Railways.
Key Features of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train
Designed for long-distance overnight travel, the Vande Bharat Sleeper blends comfort and technology.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper is expected to include:
Automatic doors with centralized control
Jerk-free semi-permanent couplers
Crash and fire safety systems
Wi-Fi connectivity and real-time monitoring
Fully sealed gangways for noise reduction
Comfortable First AC, 2-tier, and 3-tier options
These features promise an experience that rivals premium trains like the Rajdhani Express but with the signature Vande Bharat speed and design.
Viral Video of 180 Kmph Vande Bharat Sleeper Trial
The “steady water glass” video from the 180 kmph test has become a symbol of the train’s engineering excellence.
In the clip shared by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, a glass of water sits on a table beside a smartphone, barely rippling even at high speed. Social media users praised the stability, with one commenting, “That water didn’t even move — now this is world-class stability.”
