After Dr A. Velumani, founder and CEO of unicorn Thyrocare disclosed on social media that he prefers to hire OLA cabs over using luxury cars, he was targetted by trolls.
Thyrocare boss votes for 'frugality'
Velumani has hit back at the haters and remarked that he would continue "to mentor for frugality".
"Troll me as much as you enjoy. But I will continue to mentor for frugality," he wrote on X, adding that his family, including his parents, wife, and children have been frugal and enjoy life without splurging.
"I want my followers to teach their children frugality. Be frugal, be peaceful," the Thyrocare boss said.
On Saturday, Velumani shared that his frugality shocked his peers after an event at a 5-star hotel recently. "After dinner, I called for OLA. While waiting, many insisted for selfies. Long queue. All high-end cars of Rich are behind the OLA patiently. When I sat in [an] OLA [cab] it shocked all," the CEO wrote on X, adding that it was past 10.30 pm when he called for the cab.
In another post, the entrepreneur remarked, “Having low or no income with a desperation to impress others is a dangerous combination !!”
He warned, “Play safe!!!” which resonated with several netizens.
Though many individuals have criticised him claiming it is a “contradiction” that you use OLA cab but “eat in a 5-star and not an Udupi," many people supported his views.
An X user commented, “Sir, You are great personality. We proud of you. Frugality is your life style and every gentle man life style. Never think of trolls sir. you are role model for crores of people.”
Another said, “Yes sir. Being frugal is very much important in one’s life.”
A third user jokingly remarked, “dont worry sir after this market crash everyone will learn to be frugal!”
