At the OpenAI Spring Update event on May 13, the company revealed its latest AI chatbot version, GPT-4o, nicknamed "omni".
It can answer your question in all three formats: voice, text, and vision.
Free for All:
Mira Murati, OpenAI's CTO, shared that GPT-4o won’t require you to buy its subscription for usage.
"GPT-4o reasons across voice, text, and vision. With this incredible efficiency, it also allows us to bring the GPT-4o intelligence to our free users. This is something we have been trying to do for many, many months": Murati shared at the event.
It "is available to all ChatGPT users, including on the free plan!": wrote OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on X.
Double the Speed, Half the Cost:
Not only is GPT-4o lightning-fast, but it's also cost-effective. Murati mentioned that it's twice as speedy.
Existing users with paid subscriptions will have to pay half the price for unlimited responses at a given time.
Free users will have to bear a capacity limit.
Accessible in Multiple Languages:
GPT-4o is now multilingual.
It supports over 50 languages, including various Indian languages like Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, and Hindi. Plus, token usage has been optimised for efficiency.
Real-Time Conversation:
OpenAI can converse with you in a personalised tone in real time. Makers say its response times are comparable to human conversation.
All-round Enhancement:
GPT-4o isn't just about speed; it's about performance. It excels in text, reasoning, and coding intelligence, setting new benchmarks in multilingual, audio, and vision capabilities.
New Desktop App and Improved UI:
OpenAI is releasing a desktop version of ChatGPT with a sleek new user interface, making interactions smoother and more intuitive.
“We know that these models are getting complex, but we want the experience of interaction to actually become more natural, easy…” Murati said.
Interestingly, ChatGPT’s announcement coincided with Google event I/O 2024, where it’s expected to unveil its latest AI offerings.
It appears that chatbots are becoming the new computers.
