It’s true. Mother’s Day sales have eclipsed popular holiday sales records for the first time.

On Mother's Day, Zomato and Swiggy Instamart received a surge of orders, breaking their previous order volume records set on New Year’s Eve.

Deepinder Goyal, Zomato’s co-founder and CEO, took to social media to share that the sales volume on Mother's Day unexpectedly exceeded that of New Year’s Eve.

Blinkit, Zomato’s gift delivery service, and Swiggy Instamart both experienced a higher demand for gifts including chocolates, roses, handbags, and smartwatches.

Blinkit saw an unexpected surge in handbag demands as founder Albinder Dhindsa shared the data on X.

Albinder Dhindsa, CEO of Blinkit, noted significant spikes in sales of smartwatches, jewellery, and perfumes, with flower bouquet sales surpassing those of Valentine’s Day.

Swiggy Instamart’s CEO, Phani Kishan, reported varying popular orders across cities, with roses leading in Bangalore and Mumbai, while other cities favoured chocolates, plants, cakes, and perfumes.

Kishan believed beforehand that Mother’s Day sales might outdo Valentine’s Day and Holi’s.

This surge in orders wasn’t confined to Zomato and Swiggy.

The cab service companies like Ola and Magicpin, an e-commerce platform backed by Zomato, also delivered food on Mother’s Day under the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) model.

T Koshy, CEO of ONDC, highlighted the successful collaboration between Ola and Magicpin, emphasising the initiative’s capacity to compete with major players in the market.
