Kashish Mittal quits being an IAS to be a musician
In India, many dream of joining the Indian Civil Services. The UPSC exam is considered one of the toughest papers to crack.
And what happens when someone does it? Their life is sorted, they say.
But for Kashish Mittal, someone who cracked the UPSC exam in just one attempt and joined the Indian Administrative Service at 21 years of age, music took over.
Currently, he is going viral on the Internet for his career pivots and his desire to truly pursue his passion.
WHO IS KASHISH MITTAL
According to Economic Times, Kashish Mittal was born in Jalandhar in 1989. His father, Jagdish Kumar, served as an IPS officer.
At just 8 years of age, he started training in Hindustani classical music. Soon after, he started performing at Punjab’s Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan.
Eventually, he secured admission in IIT Delhi after scoring an All India Rank 6 in JEE. Here, he earned his BTech degree.
After finishing his engineering degree, he decided to take inspiration from his IPS father and pursue civil services. Kashish was able to clear the UPSC Civil Services Examination in his first attempt.
At 21 years of age, he joined the IAS.
Thereafter, he held key roles in the Indian Administrative Service, such as Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh, Deputy Commissioner of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, and Private Secretary to the Minister of State for External Affairs.
In 2017, during his central deputation, he held the position of Additional Principal Secretary at NITI Aayog.
But in December 2019, Kashish decided to resign from his position and fully embrace his love for music.
Apart from focusing on Indian classical music, Kashish entered the tech world in January 2020 and joined Microsoft as a Principal Research Program Manager. Here, he spent five years.
And then…came another pivot.
Kashish Mittal became a tech entrepreneur and co-founded Disha AI – a personal AI-powered tutor that is built to help people “master in-demand AI skills and supercharge your career through a learn-by-doing approach.”
WHAT THE INTERNET IS SAYING
A recent video of Kashish Mittal singing a Nusrat Fateh Ali song went viral. It has gained around 7 million views.
A social media user commented, “You, sir, are a gem.”
Another said, “Even after IIT AIR 6 and IAS, you’re still following your passion. Truly motivating.”
