Over the past week, Knot.dating, an AI-based Indian matrimonial app, has gone viral on the Internet.

The reasons?

Knot.dating has a stringent filter of onboarding men who make at least Rs 50 lakh per year. There are, however, no salary brackets or restrictions for women.

Jasveer Singh, co-founder and CEO of Knot.dating, thinks it is about ambition. As per one of his statements to a news portal, it is not about the money but about ambition.

Startup Pedia had earlier reported that Knot.dating’s strict filter of Rs 50 lakh salary for men had drawn immense criticism.

Social media users had called out Knot.dating with comments like  “gold digging logs in” to “an app for all the world's gold diggers.”

The debate further intensified when the user breakup was released – 68% women are on the app and only 32% men.

Now, Jasveer Singh, in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) has responded to these accusations with data.

“WOMEN HAVE WORKED HARD"

Jasveer wrote, “Women are gold diggers on Knot dating? Let me share some stats- more than 50% of women here earn over 30L+ they’re from top-tier colleges Ivy league, IITs and IIMs- working at top startups and MNCs they’ve worked hard to reach there.”

He added that Knot.dating isn't forcing anyone to join and register at the platform. According to him, individuals are joining because “they see the value.”

The co-founder and CEO of the Indian matrimonial application also clarified that they are only following a “top-down GTM strategy,” where they have started with top-earning single people. He hinted at the possibility of broadening the brackets in the future.

At the end, he addressed “the elephant in the room” and stated that a classist and elitist approach is all around the society.

“your maid takes her slippers off at the gate, she can’t sit on your sofa and watch Netflix. Why? A software engineer can’t walk into the CEO’s cabin and sit on their chair. Why? The degree can be vary, but It exists, and it will continue to exist. We live in a capitalist world,” Jasveer wrote.

WHAT DID NETIZENS SAY

People had a mix of opinions on the co-founder’s post.

One social media user wrote, “Now you may say, "sexism" exists in the real world, yes it does, but its also frowned upon. That is not "addressing the elephant" thats just saying “elephant exists deal with it”

Another stated, “Bro, you can't word salad your way out of this. No one is going after AstroTalk or OnlyFans CEOs. Even they are serving need/gaps that aren't entirely socially acceptable. Just take the money, exploit the 'unfair system', don't expect applause and love on top of it please.”
