Apple's manufacturer, Foxconn, is building a plant near Hyderabad, Telangana, set to create 25,000 jobs initially and eventually employ over 100,000 people.
The facility will begin manufacturing Apple's AirPods as early as August, marking Foxconn's first audio device production for Apple in India.
In a recent interview with DIGITIMES Asia, Vishnu Reddy, the special secretary to the Investment Promotion & NRI Affairs of Telangana, mentioned that two of Foxconn's factory lines have already been constructed in Hyderabad.
The entire plant was completed in just one and a half years, which exceeded Foxconn's initial estimated timeline of two and a half years.
Foxconn Chairman Young Liu visited Hyderabad in March 2023 and signed a letter of intent with the State government to establish the facility.
25,000 New Jobs:
According to the Hindu Businessline, Foxconn had previously announced investments of US$500 million in Hyderabad, and the plant would employ 25,000 people.
When asked to confirm if the wearables include Apple's AirPods, the secretary declined to comment, suggesting that Foxconn, as a contract manufacturer, works with various brands, and the decision of which brands they serve is internal.
Reddy suggested that the vendor is happy with the progress, but did not specify Apple or any company in his comments.
