India is currently in negotiations with Japan to expedite the process of designing, manufacturing, and conducting trial runs of high-speed trains, commonly known as Bullet Trains. The aim is to localize the production of these trains and establish indigenous versions for future standard gauge high-speed corridors.
Indian Railways' collaboration with Japan in the high-speed train sector has been vital in introducing cutting-edge technology to the country. With an average operational speed of 250 kmph and the capability to touch speeds of up to 280 kmph, the Bullet Trains are set to transform the way Indians travel.
Focus on Indigenization
The planned indigenous bullet trains will be developed from the prevalent Vande Bharat platform. The signaling systems for these corridors will speed up the development of cutting-edge Kavach 5.0, presenting the most sophisticated automatic train protection technology.
"Work on the bullet train corridor in Maharashtra picked up pace after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government took charge. Entire land acquisition is complete and over 320 kilometres of the physical infrastructure work is ready," an official said.
Accelerated Infrastructure Projects in Maharashtra
Following recent election results in Maharashtra, the implementation of significant infrastructure projects, including the bullet train initiative, is expected to gain momentum. With over 320 kilometers of physical infrastructure work already completed, the bullet train corridor in Maharashtra is progressing rapidly.
Future Prospects
Japanese companies, Kawasaki and Hitachi will work towards the development, manufacture, and supply of bullet trains with speeds of up to 300 kmph along the Mumbai - Ahmedabad corridor.
India's ambition to lead the high-speed train sector is evident in its plans to develop indigenous versions of the Vande Bharat platform. Insights gained from the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project will be instrumental in shaping future high-speed corridors across the country.
BJP Manifesto and Feasibility Studies
The Bhartiya Janta Party's manifesto includes proposals for feasibility studies of Bullet Train Corridors in North, South, and East India. With 50% of civil works completed on the MAHSR corridor, India is making significant strides towards realizing its vision of a high-speed rail network.
