Who is Baiju Bhatt?

41-year-old Bhatt was born to Gujarati immigrant parents. He spent his early years in Alabama before moving to Virginia.

His father pursued a PhD but was later diagnosed with kidney failure. They were burdened with financial issues and were even unable to travel to India.

In a recent interview with Shawn Ryan, Bhatt recalled his last visit to India was in 1997.

The entrepreneur graduated in physics from Stanford University and then completed a master’s degree in mathematics in 2008.

In 2013, he co-founded fintech startup Robinhood with college friend Vlad Tenev, which disrupted traditional brokerages by offering commission-free stock trading, making investing accessible to younger, first-time traders.

Robinhood went public in 2021 at a valuation of $32 billion.

The fintech firm’s rapid growth included a 400% surge in stock value, record $3 billion revenues in 2024, and expansion into IRAs and high-yield savings accounts, which have played a key role in building Bhatt’s fortune, now estimated at $6 billion.

Co-founder Bhatt owns an estimated 6% stake in the company and continues to serve on its board despite stepping down from executive roles in 2024.

He previously served as co-CEO and later as Chief Creative Officer at the firm.

Notably, Forbes lists Bhatt alongside bigshot names like Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Walmart heir Lukas Walton.

Incidentally, Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder Elon Musk regained the title of world's richest man, hours after Oracle's co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Larry Ellison outpassed the position following a single-day net worth gain of $101 billion.

Ellison briefly held the title of richest person in the world, overtaking Elon Musk, who has held this title for the last four years.
