Indian weddings are often termed as “big, fat, and grand” but what goes behind the stage is not exactly “grand.”

Parents of young women and men meet each other and discuss a lot of things, often in tedious details: from the kind of money one makes to their idea of family planning.

A new Indian matchmaking app has taken the “background check” and prerequisites to a whole new level.

Knot.dating, founded by Jasveer Singh and Abhishek Asthana, is a new artificial intelligence-powered matrimonial app that only registers men who are earning Rs 50 lakh or above in a year. For women, however, there is no salary bracket.

KNOT.DATING: BEYOND DATING

A play on the word “not dating,” Knot.dating is pretty clear about its approach:

  1. It wants people who are serious about getting married.
  2. It taps into the urban audience that is tired of dating and just wants to tie the knot and have a long-term, happy marriage.

Then, why the Rs 50 lakh salary bar for men?

Reportedly, Jasveer Singh, co-founder and CEO of Knot.dating, thinks it is about ambition and nothing else.

“It's not about the money - it's about ambition,” he told a news portal.

On the Internet, Knot.dating’s strict filter of Rs 50 lakh salary for men has drawn criticism and debate.

Social media users are dwindling between opinions like “gold digging logs in” to Nirmala Sitharaman will personally come to bless the bride and groom.”

WHAT MAKES KNOT.DATING DIFFERENT

Knot.dating does not take the “form-filling” or “swipe right” approach to matchmaking.

It has developed a conversational AI that merges with human-assisted matchmaking and suggests matches with high compatibility.

Users simply have to speak to the system for a few minutes. The AI catches on to their personality, communication patterns, and emotional intelligence. With these results, it shows matching individuals with similar or compatible traits.

Additionally, every profile (man or woman’s) goes through a stringent 100% background verification. A personal relationship manager is also assigned to every member who joins Knot.dating.
