A Bengaluru-based IIT Kharagpur graduate has developed an Artificial Intelligence tool that measures how round a roti (chapati) is and then gives it a score out of 100.

According to Moneycontrol, it all started when a social media user posted a picture of a round chapati and added a caption that read, “Gol roti banana bhi ek art hai.”

Responding to it, Animesh Chouhan introduced his AI tool called RotiChecker.ai and gave the user’s chapati a score of 91 out of 100.

The post quickly went viral on the Internet and the IIT Kharagpur graduate stated that he would release the AI tool for public use if his post achieved 420 likes. Animesh wrote, “420 likes and http://rotichecker.ai goes public! 🌕”

ROTICHECKER.AI: BUILT AS A JOKE

Animesh Chouhan said that he developed RotiChecker.ai as a joke during his free time. But after it received a lot of traction on social media, he is now thinking of taking the project ahead and even seeking investment.

Joking about offering 10% equity in return, Chouhan said he would seek investment in order to get the domain name.

Currently, the website shows the following text:

NETIZENS REACT

Animesh Chouhan’s invention received a lot of responses from social media users. While some suggested the need for more tools like RotiChecker.ai, others gave feedback on the tool itself.

One user wrote, “So Indian developers are busy in making such craps, i see.” Animesh responded by saying that the tool only took him 5 minutes to make.

A second user wrote, “The US has ChatGPT, China has DeepSeek, and we have RotiMeter.ai.”

In a sarcastic comment directed to OpenAI’s Sam Altman, another user wrote, “sit down sama, India has arrived.”

One individual also pointed out that the tool measures only a roti’s shape, not its thickness. According to them, the thickness of a roti is also a key factor in determining the taste and texture.

The tool also received some backlash for being misogynist. One user wrote, “how about programming something that’s not misogynistic or based on a particular gender next time.”

Animesh countered by writing, “Who said this platform is only for women? If you assumed that, then that's your own misogyny showing, not mine. We have men posting here too. Cheers!”
