Trainees laid off by Infosys

According to a recent report by MoneyControl, batches of 50 trainees were called for a discussion at 9.30 am on February 7.

One laid-off trainee told the publication anonymously that because other employees and US clients were on campus, buses were used to “shield” the area where trainees were being called and “terminated one by one,” adding, “We were escorted out in a way so as to not catch their attention”.

Another trainee remarked, “This is cruelty. It is a big company, and trainees fear speaking the truth.”

The IT graduates waited over two years after passing out to start their careers at Infosys in September 2024. However, just six months later they have become jobless.

A female trainee had requested to stay the night at the Mysuru campus before leaving in the morning for her hometown in Madhya Pradesh. However, she was refused and asked to vacate the office premises by 6 pm.

As per the report, hundreds of terminated trainees were stuck trying to hail cabs and rides to their hometowns.

"In a shocking and unethical move, Infosys has begun forcefully laying off around 700 campus recruits who were onboarded just a few months ago," Harpreet Singh Saluja, NITES president, shared in a statement.

“At Infosys, we have a rigorous hiring process where all freshers, after undergoing extensive foundational training at our Mysuru campus, are expected to clear internal assessments,” IT giant Infosys said in an official statement.

The company added that candidates get three attempts to pass the tests, failing which they will no longer be able to work for the firm as per their signed contract.
