Kabeer Biswas, co-founder of the hyperlocal delivery startup, Dunzo has been offered to join Flipkart Minutes as the head of operations, the quick commerce arm of Walmart-owned Flipkart, according to sources familiar with the matter. Biswas played a key role in shaping his company into a prominent player in the hyperlocal delivery segment.

What happened with Dunzo?

Since 2023, the Bengaluru-based startup Dunzo has faced major challenges to secure fresh funding for competing in the quick commerce market. Recently, the talks of cofounder Kabeer Biswas exiting the company have raised concerns about its future in a market dominated by well-funded rivals.

Founded in 2015 by Kabeer Biswas, Dalvir Suri, Mukund Jha, and Ankur Aggarwal, the Reliance Retail-backed hyperlocal delivery startup has revolutionized the way consumers could connect with nearby stores for quick deliveries of groceries, medicines, and other daily essentials.

However, as the industry grew increasingly competitive, Dunzo faced challenges in maintaining its operations. Consequently, Biswas made the difficult decision to step down from Dunzo.

With Google as a common investor in both Dunzo and Flipkart, Biswas' appointment could enhance Flipkart's competitive edge against other players in the market, such as Zomato-owned Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and Tata BigBasket.

Incidentally, Dunzo's former cofounder Ankur Aggarwal is preparing to launch Kuik, which would help brands set up quick delivery services.
