Biocon chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has warned about Bengaluru’s infrastructure problem.
Calling on the Karnataka government and civic authorities to urgently address the issue, she wrote on X, “Namma Bengaluru has the best talent and the best weather but the worst infrastructure. If we fix garbage, debris and roads, we can be among the best cities in the world. GBA has a great opportunity to do this. Let’s use collective will to do this @DKShivakumar @BBMPCOMM.”

Biocon Chief's post resonates with Bengaluru residents
Seeing the post, many Bengaluru residents supported her, pointing out that the city’s overflowing garbage, worn-out roads and recurring floods are damaging its stature as India’s tech capital.
A user commented: "Beyond govt. work on garbage and roads, most important is the issue of people's habits—civic sense, traffic rules, basic etiquette & standing up for fellow Indians. Get this right, the rest will follow!"
"Traffic, pollution, garbage, roads, corruption, illegal constructions on Lake and forest areas," wrote another user. "List goes on. People who are addicted to power, money and alcohol cannot make anything substantial. I don't see a single leader who love Bangalore as much as we do and work like that."
Another shared the pictures and video of a battered road and said, "Mam, please tell @BBMPCOMM This road was dug year ago, no repair after that, people falling daily heavy traffic jam. Govt. only want tax, doesn’t care about pregnant women, kids, senior citizens. Kaithota- Valepur RD, Immadihalli, Whitefield, ward-84. Hagadur. It has become full mud road."
Deputy CM replies
The Deputy CM of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, responded to her, acknowledging the challenges. He assured that the government is committed to change.
“Agree with you, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Bengaluru has always had the talent, the weather, and the spirit. What it lacked was political will. That’s exactly what we are fixing now,” he wrote.
He assured that the challenges are now getting addressed urgently.
“From garbage to roads, from debris to planning – every challenge is being addressed with purpose and urgency. Namma (our) Bengaluru has always stood for innovation, opportunity, and unmatched spirit, and as our city grows and pushes boundaries, my commitment is to ensure our infrastructure and governance acts as a catalyst for growth,” he added.
Incidentally, the Karnataka government has formally constituted the Greater Bengaluru Authority, a 75-member body tasked with coordinating across the five newly carved city corporations.
The GBA will serve as a central agency to coordinate planning, infrastructure and civic management in the metropolis.
“With the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), we now have a unique opportunity to transform this vision into reality, and we will deliver,” Shivakumar further wrote.
Shivakumar urged businesses, civil society and citizens to support the government. “This is the time to come together and shape a new chapter for Namma Bengaluru. The future is ours to build—together!” he added.
