Ather Energy has introduced 'Pothole Alerts' for scooters, which proactively warn riders of rough road patches or potholes and suggest alternate routes.
At the company’s annual Ather Community Day 2025 in Bengaluru, it announced a set of rider safety upgrades through its new AtherStack 7.0 technology platform on August 30.
Ather co-founder and CEO, Tarun Mehta, said, "So we built Pothole Alerts. Your scooter will now warn you before you hit a rough patch or pothole, and it will also suggest an alternate route with fewer potholes and a smoother ride."
Ather's Pothole Alerts
The company has already mapped pothole data across major cities, including Bengaluru and Pune, where dense rider networks provided detailed road-condition maps. This database will continue to grow as more scooters feed in real-world data.
The system uses fleet intelligence collected from lakhs of Ather scooters on Indian roads and issues real-time voice notifications when riders approach hazardous stretches.
Additionally, Ather has introduced Crash Alerts to distinguish between minor and severe accidents.
In the event of a serious crash, the scooter automatically notifies emergency contacts with the rider’s live location while also displaying critical rider details on the dashboard for quick assistance.
Swapnil Jain, cofounder and CTO of Ather Energy, said: “By combining AI with data from our connected fleet, we are turning everyday rides into safer and more intuitive experiences.”
Other updates under AtherStack 7.0 include theft-prevention feature ParkSafe, which warns owners about unsafe parking zones, and LockSafe, which lets riders remotely immobilise their scooters.
The Ather Stack 7 allows real-time cricket score on the dashboard.
Limited data will be available in the bottom corner. When halted or parked, the full-screen mode of the scorecard can be accessed.
Owners can also control charging or shut down the vehicle remotely.
The new safety features will be introduced via over-the-air (OTA) updates to the Ather Rizta Z and Ather 450X up to Gen 3 models in the coming months.
