Google CEO Sundar Pichai has openly challenged Microsoft chief Satya Nadella, for a head-to-head AI showdown between their companies' latest models. Pichai declared this while appearing at the New York Times' DealBook Summit, where he discussed the rapid pace of AI development and offered a glimpse into the future of search technology in 2025.
Clash of the Titans: Pichai vs. Nadella
The rivalry between Google and Microsoft in the realm of artificial intelligence has been heating up, with both companies making significant strides in advancing their respective AI capabilities.
During a podcast earlier this year, Nadella remarked that Google should have been the clear frontrunner in the race for AI supremacy.
“I would love to do a side-by-side comparison of Microsoft’s models and our own models any day, any time,” Pichai wasted no time in firing back at his rival. “They are using someone else's model,” he further remarked.
Innovation at the Forefront
Pichai talked about Google's commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI technology and staying at the forefront of innovation. He pointed out that the next generation of Google models is already in the works, with a focus on enhancing reasoning abilities and ensuring more reliable sequence completion. As the AI landscape evolves, Pichai believes that elite teams will emerge as the leaders in the field by 2025.
Future Outlook and Challenges
Looking ahead to 2025, Pichai admitted that the era of easy wins in AI development is coming to an end. The road to advancement is becoming steeper, but Google remains undeterred in its quest for excellence. However, he expressed confidence that Google will continue to push the boundaries of AI capabilities, driving progress and innovation in the years to come.
“I think the models are definitely going to get better at reasoning, completing a sequence of actions more reliably… I think so you will see us push the boundaries,” the Google CEO remarked.
Incidentally, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena confidently named Satya Nadella the Google CEO instead of Sundar Pichai while discussing successful Indians worldwide. She was immediately bashed by netizens for the blunder.
