A video is going viral on social media about a stampede-like situation in Gujarat’s Bharuch district after nearly 1800 job seekers turned up for walk-in interviews held by a private company for just 10 job opportunities or posts.

Media reports confirm the incident is from Bharuch district’s Ankleshwar region.

Applicants can be seen pushing, shoving, and scrambling to ensure their place in the extremely packed queue outside the company office, which ultimately caused the railing to collapse. Some job seekers jumped off the ramp to avoid injury, while others fell when the railing gave way.

Questions Over ‘Gujarat Model’:

The opposition, particularly the Congress, is slamming the Modi government's 'Gujarat model'. Congress posted a video criticising the model, and the BJP responded by accusing Congress of spreading negativity about Gujarat.

Congress posted on X, “Gujarat model of Narendra Modi. A huge crowd of unemployed people gathered for a hotel job in Bharuch, Gujarat. The situation became such that the railing of the hotel broke and the Gujarat model was exposed. Narendra Modi is imposing this model of unemployment on the entire country.”

Meanwhile, Congress’ Rahul Gandhi wrote on X, “The 'disease of unemployment' has taken the form of an epidemic in India, and BJP-ruled states have become the 'epicentre' of this disease. The ‘future of India’ jostling in queues for a common job is the reality of Narendra Modi's ‘Amritkal’.”

BJP Gujarat replied in an X post, “Efforts to defame Gujarat are being made through a viral video from Ankleshwar. The advertisement for the walk-in interview clearly states they require experienced candidates. This implies those attending the interview are already employed elsewhere. Therefore, the notion of these individuals being unemployed is baseless. It's evident that spreading negativity about Gujarat is a tactic learned from the Congress!"

Social Media Reaction:

Users online are slamming the Modi-led central government for not creating enough jobs for the unemployed youth. They are also questioning the much-publicised 'Gujarat Model'.

One user wrote, "This is not Bihar, This is Not UP, This is not Rajasthan but Unemployed youth trying their luck during a job opening in a private hotel in Bharuch district, Gujarat."

Another user commented, "If there are so many industries, job opportunities in Gujarat why are these 1000 applicants fighting for 5 positions available as vacancy. At a hotel in Ankleshwar, a company organised a walk-in interview, aiming to fill positions in the Chemical Industry. Candidates with diverse qualifications, including B.E. in Chemical Engineering and ITI certifications, were sought for roles like Shift Incharge, Plant Operator, Supervisor, Mechanical Filter, and Executive positions."
