The Russian cabinet has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation with India in the field of civil nuclear energy during President Vladimir Putin's visit to the country on December 4-5.
Russia to sign MoU with India to deepen civil nuclear cooperation
Russia's Rosatom nuclear corporation, which is setting up several reactors at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu, has been authorised to sign the MoU with the relevant Indian authorities on behalf of the Russian government, according to local media reports.
Interacting with the Indian media on Tuesday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Rosatom CEO Alexei Ligachev will present a full portfolio of proposals, including proposals for cooperation in developing small modular reactors, to be tabled at the summit talks in New Delhi.
As reported earlier, Rosatom has expressed readiness to localise advanced Russian-designed reactors in India.
According to Outlook India, the Reciprocal Exchange of Logistics Support (RELOS) agreement, signed in February 2025 by Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and then-Deputy Defence Minister Alexander Fomin, will allow mutual use of military facilities, airspace, and ports for joint exercises, training, humanitarian missions, and disaster relief, streamlining operations in challenging regions like the Arctic.
