NHAI introduces QR-code-based information boards on major Bengaluru highways

These QR boards are currently available on the Bengaluru–Nelamangala section of NH-48 and the Bengaluru–Kolar–Mulbagal section of NH-75.

According to NHAI, the new QR codes are designed to assist travellers in emergencies and offer instant access to highway patrol teams, police stations, hospitals, and the NHAI helpline. Commuters can also obtain information about nearby toll plazas and wayside amenities.

Travellers will have to scan the QR code using a smartphone to instantly receive important information about the highway stretch, nearby facilities, and emergency contacts.

The details would include access to engineers, highway patrol teams, police stations, hospitals, and the NHAI helpline.

Netizens respond

However, after NHAI posted about the initiative, it sparked angry reactions on social media.

“No Information about Budget, Contractor ??” commented a user.

“This isn’t transparency, it’s distraction,” said one user. “If contractor nam’e, project cost, maintenance agency and grievance accountability are missing, the app serves no public purpose. “

“To scan this QR code, someone needs to stop his vehicle and create traffic congestion,” remarked another. “How do you ensure that there are no posters pasted on the QR code?”
