Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu accuses IndiGo Airlines
Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu on Tuesday delivered a strong warning to IndiGo, saying he would “definitely” sack the airline’s top leadership.
Ram Mohan Naidu blames IndiGo's “internal mess”
In a combative interview with Times Now, the Minister remarked that IndiGo alone was responsible for the crisis, accusing the airline of an “internal mess” and mismanaging its crew and rostering systems despite repeated consultations with the ministry.
When asked, “Will you sack the CEO, will you sack the COO?” Naidu responded: “If it comes to that, definitely I will do it. I will charge them with all the penalties that is there.”
When asked if criminal action was also being examined, Naidu said: “Definitely, I will look into all of those aspects. It is not only about these things that have happened. I still sympathize. Like I am telling you, I am hurt, deeply hurt with all of this. For the last seven days, I have not slept properly. I have just been sitting in the office doing continuous review meetings.”
He stressed that his priority was protecting passengers and ensuring such operational failures were never repeated. “Whatever I do, one, I want it to be an… example that anyone messes with aviation in the future… I am going to set an example for that,” he told Times Now, adding that the ministry was also exploring ways to offer relief to distressed travellers.
“IndiGo has messed up with its internal rostering system,” he said.
He further mentioned that the ministry had neither ignored nor exempted the airline during the implementation of revised pilot duty norms.
