WisprFlow, a San Francisco-based AI startup building next-generation voice and productivity technology, has raised more than $81 million in funding without ever formally pitching investors, according to a post shared by the company’s CEO Tanay Kothari.

“Today, we’re taking the next step towards that goal with $25 million in new funding, bringing our total funding to $81 million, led by Notable Capital with participation from Steven Bartlett’s Flight Fund,” the CEO disclosed.

In a social media post, he shared how each financing round followed the same pattern as the team stayed focused on building the product, and investors showed up unsolicited, asking what it would take to lead the next round.

“We weren’t even raising,” the CEO wrote on X. “We were heads down building. Then a VC shows up at our office.”

Among those investors were NEO’s Ali Partovi, Notable Capital’s Hans Tung, and Menlo Ventures’ Matt Kranning, all of whom, the CEO said, proactively offered to lead rounds at future valuations before WisprFlow had hit key metrics, created a pitch deck, or entered fundraising mode.

The post draws a sharp contrast between what Tanay Kothari described as “social-proof-driven” investors and a smaller group of pre-emptive backers willing to move early.

Unlike traditional rounds that depend on momentum and consensus, pre-emptive investors, the CEO argued, rely on independent conviction and a belief in long-term vision over near-term traction.

“They show up early, pay premium prices, and bet on vision over metrics,” the post said.

That conviction, the CEO of the AI startup added, becomes most valuable when companies face inevitable turbulence.

According to him, investors who commit early are less likely to panic or retreat when challenges arise, having already bought into the mission before external validation existed.

“The best investors don’t follow rounds,” Kothari concluded. “They create them.”
