This MBA Grad launched skincare brand backed by Ayurveda, serves a global customer base - clocked Rs 60 Cr turnover since inception.

Tribe Concepts, a skincare brand founded in 2019, has been making waves in the beauty industry with its focus on natural and sustainable ingredients. Backed by Ayurveda, the brand serves thousands of customers across India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the UAE.

The founder of Tribe Concepts, Amritha Gaddam, has a personal connection to natural remedies for everyday health and beauty needs.

PCOS, chemicals, and eventually Ayurveda

Growing up in Andhra Pradesh, she watched her mother use sandalwood powder to treat pimples and coconut powder to wash hair, which she credits for her own healthy locks. However, during her college years, Amritha was drawn to chemical products and treatments, which eventually led to her being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), weight gain, and hair fall.

Following her father's advice, an Ayurvedic doctor, she began making gradual changes towards healthier options, including natural skincare. Her friends were amazed by the positive changes in her health, which inspired her to turn the idea into a business. Thus, Tribe Concepts was born in 2014.

The dangers of chemical-based skincare

Chemical-based skincare products have become a popular choice for many people due to their convenience and instant results. However, the long-term dangers of using these products are often overlooked. Chemical-based skincare products contain harmful ingredients that can cause harm to the skin and the body as a whole. In this article, we will explore some of the dangers of using chemical-based skincare products and why natural skincare is a better alternative.

One of the main dangers of using chemical-based skincare products is that they can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. Many chemicals found in skincare products can cause redness, itching, and other allergic reactions. These reactions can be severe, leading to rashes, blisters, and even scarring. This is especially true for people with sensitive skin, as their skin is more prone to irritation.

Another danger of using chemical-based skincare products is that they can disrupt the natural pH balance of the skin. The skin has a natural pH balance that helps to protect it from harmful bacteria and other environmental factors. Chemical-based skincare products can disrupt this balance, leading to dryness, irritation, and other skin problems.

Natural, sustainable skincare

Tribe Concepts focuses on sustainability, with their products packaged in stainless steel tins, setting them apart from other skincare brands. Despite challenges in finding the right size of steel tins from vendors, Amritha and her team remained committed to their sustainability goals. Their products incorporate natural ingredients such as red sandalwood, nutmeg, saffron, ashwagandha, and jhatamansi.

Through the brand, Amritha aims to provide consumers with natural, sustainable, and effective skincare solutions while celebrating the power of Ayurveda.

Tribe Concepts' success is a reflection of the growing demand for natural and sustainable skincare products worldwide. Consumers are becoming more conscious of the ingredients they put on their skin and are seeking products that are free from harmful chemicals and have minimal impact on the environment. Brands like Tribe Concepts have been able to tap into this demand by providing quality products that cater to these needs.

In addition to the benefits for consumers, natural and sustainable skincare has significant environmental benefits. Traditional skincare products often contain harsh chemicals that can have adverse effects on water sources and wildlife. The use of sustainable packaging also reduces waste and encourages consumers to reuse and recycle.

The success

On a monthly basis, the startup receives 25,000 orders, which is a testament to the effectiveness of their products. Since its inception, Tribe Concepts has clocked a turnover of Rs 60 crore.

Amritha Gaddam and her team at Tribe Concepts have demonstrated that sustainable and natural skincare can be both effective and profitable. Their commitment to quality and sustainability is an inspiration to other brands in the industry and a sign of positive change towards a more conscious and eco-friendly approach to skincare.
