Aakhil M and Tarun, co-founders of ironTrex
Imagine receiving an image on your WhatsApp message from an unknown person. The moment you download the image to see it, your bank account is drained. You didn’t share your OTP or card details, but it’s already too late.
This isn’t a rare occurrence. In 2023, India lost a staggering $2 billion to UPI fraud, with no effective tools available to protect everyday users from cyber scams. While corporations invest heavily in cybersecurity, the general public remains vulnerable.
This threatening situation inspired Aakhil M, former Head of Strategy at a pharma-tech company, and his friend, serial entrepreneur Tarun, to launch IronTrex, a game-changing cybersecurity app designed for the masses.
“Even tech-savvy people fall for phishing scams. The public doesn’t stand a chance,” said Aakhil, the founder and CEO of IronTrex, in an exclusive interview with Startup Pedia.
Introducing IronTrex : A Digital Fortress Against Cybercrime
IronTrex is a Hyderabad-based startup, a newly launched cybersecurity platform aimed at protecting Indian smartphone users from UPI scams, phishing links, and dark web identity theft. Unlike apps like Truecaller, which focus primarily on caller ID and spam call blocking, IronTrex offers a comprehensive AI-powered security suite that tackles online fraud head-on.
The app uses machine learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to block fraudulent links and QR codes in real time, even on platforms like WhatsApp.
“Once the app is installed and permissions are granted, it scans messages and images in real time. Fraudulent content gets blocked before it can cause harm,” the founder explained to Startup Pedia.
Key features include:
Free Services: Blocking UPI fraud, phishing links, and scam QR codes for all users.
- Premium Features: Dark web monitoring and data breach alerts for ₹79, notifying local cyber authorities if personal data is detected online.
- Upcoming Features (Phase Two): AI-driven caller ID and scam call detection, analyzing keywords like “OTP” or “UPI” and identifying suspicious caller behavior (e.g., high-frequency outgoing calls with no incoming calls).
- Future Plans: Patenting their in-house AI models technology and integrating with mobile manufacturers to pre-install the app.
The app is currently available for Android users, with a launch scheduled soon. “We’re testing the Android version and can go live anytime soon,” Aakhil shared with Startup Pedia.
The app is designed to be user-friendly, requiring no technical expertise.
“You just download, give permissions, and it works in the background. It’s built for everyone, from tier-1 to tier-3 cities,” the founder of IronTrex emphasized.

Revenue Model and Market Opportunity
IronTrex operates on a dual B2C and B2B model. For consumers, the app is free, with premium features like dark web monitoring priced at just ₹79. For businesses, the Hyderabad-based startup offers an API for banks, NBFCs, and fintech companies to integrate its fraud detection capabilities.
The total addressable market (TAM) for digital fraud protection in India is estimated at $1.2 billion. In its first year, IronTrex aims to onboard 1500000 mobile users, secure partnerships with two banks and one insurer, and generate $10 million in revenue.
“We expect $1.5 per user from B2C and $4.5 combined from banks and insurers,” Aakhil told Startup Pedia.
Marketing Strategy: Viral and Victim-Led Growth
IronTrex ’s go-to-market (GTM) strategy focuses on victim-led virality. “Saving someone’s money or identity from being stolen is the best marketing. It spreads like wildfire,” Aakhil said.
The team plans to leverage influencer marketing, social awareness campaigns, and app store optimization with keywords like “cybersecurity for public,” “UPI fraud protection,” and “data theft prevention.”
The Visionary Behind IronTrex : Aakhil M's Journey
With the founders' families involved in banking and multinational corporations, the co-founders of IronTrex were exposed to financial systems across both public and private sectors from an early age.
He served as Head of Strategy at Hydraa Labs, a company specializing in patented medical formulations and supplements.
“Life was comfortable, but I saw a bigger problem to solve,” the co-founder Tarun told Startup Pedia.
The co-founders bootstrapped IronTrex for developing the AI model, GPUs, and fraud pattern datasets. He also enrolled in Stanford’s cybersecurity program to deepen his expertise.
“I’m non-technical, but my role is to unite skilled tech talent under one vision,” Aakhil shared with Startup Pedia.
His team of seven includes a machine learning expert, a full-stack developer, two IIT specialists, an intern, and Aakhil as the co-founder and Head of Product Development & Strategy, with Tarun Y serving as the second director overseeing operations.

Long-Term Vision: Redefining Cybersecurity in India
IronTrex's vision for the Hyderabad-based startup extends beyond an app. The company aims to make it a pre-installed application on smartphones through partnerships with mobile manufacturers and government bodies
“We want to be the face of public cybersecurity in India,” Tarun told Startup Pedia.
In the long run, IronTrex aims to decentralize dependency on systems for individuals and corporations, positioning itself as a foundational layer of India’s digital safety net, CEO of IronTrex Aakhil added.
“No other app combines UPI fraud protection, phishing link blocking, and dark web monitoring like we do. Saving someone from a scam is the best kind of virality. That’s what we’re betting on,” said the founders of IronTrex , while concluding the interview with Startup Pedia.
