A few years ago, a Bangalore-based techie Niladri Das Roy found himself in a recurring dilemma. Early-morning flights to his hometown often meant expensive cab fares, which were out of reach for someone just starting their career. To save money, he would take the last bus to the airport late at night and wait for hours until his flight.

“It was challenging, but at that stage, you do what you can to save money,” he recalled. This experience became the seed of an idea that would later blossom into CoRider, a tech-driven platform designed to make travel more accessible, affordable, and hassle-free and put the controls back in the hands of the riders.

The Journey to CoRider

Inspired by the need for a practical solution to high travel costs, the techie and his friend pooled their resources and expertise to build CoRider. Drawing on their background in technology and product development, they invested seed capital into building the app and assembling a remote team to bring their vision to life.

What is CoRider?

CoRider goes beyond conventional carpooling by connecting travellers heading to the same destination - such as an airport - via its app. Riders can coordinate rides, split fares, and reduce travel costs. Unlike traditional carpool options, CoRider doesn’t require users to own a car; they simply arrange shared cabs online or offline through the platform.

In addition, riders have the option to choose who they want to travel with, unlike aggregator ride-sharing, where the driver makes these decisions.CoRider Android App

Target Customers and Market Potential

CoRider, launched in August 2024, initially tested the app with friends and family. Currently focusing on Bangalore’s airport travellers, the app plans to expand to other cities soon.

Users in Bengaluru can now book a cab directly while creating a trip on CoRider. If the trip is scheduled to begin within 90 minutes of booking, is within Bengaluru, and the mode of transport has not yet been finalized, they can conveniently secure a cab through the app.

This feature enhances convenience and ease for CoRider users.

“Our core target is airport travellers in metro cities, particularly students and young professionals aged 18–26 who value cost-effective solutions without compromising convenience or safety,” the founders shared during an interview with Startup Pedia.

With metro cities hosting a large pool of these potential users, the startup plans to partner with PG accommodations and student hubs. The app is currently free but aims to introduce a 10–12% commission model for sustainability.
