Started during the pandemic, this mithai startup in Mumbai saw a 4X jump in revenue by simply using WhatsApp’s online store.

In early 2020, Sameer Seth and Yash Bhanage established the Bombay Sweet Shop, an Indian sweets and confectionery store located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Since then, the store has become a popular destination for those seeking authentic Indian sweets, snacks, and savouries.

As the third venture of Hunger Inc. Hospitality, following The Bombay Canteen and O Pedro, Bombay Sweet Shop has established itself as a modern-day D2C mithai shop that delivers traditional Indian sweets with a contemporary twist.

Before launching the store, Sameer and Yash spent considerable time researching traditional sweets, recipes, and flavours. They then started experimenting with adding new ingredients and flavours to the traditional sweets, which helped the shop to stand out in a crowded market.

A sweet tooth’s paradise

Today, Bombay Sweet Shop is a 100% vegetarian celebratory offering that reimagines Indian sweets, creatively reinterpreting traditional Indian sweets and mithai in a contemporary and fun format.

The shop delivers its products in Mumbai and all over India from its Mithai shop, café, and factory space in Byculla, Mumbai. Despite launching during the pandemic, Bombay Sweet Shop has seen significant growth and is now a top choice for gifting, celebrations, and festivals.

The shop's website features an extensive range of products, including Besan Ladoos, Chocolate Peanut Butter Barfi, and Gulkand Coconut Barfi. The sweets are made using the finest ingredients, ensuring they are of the highest quality.

In addition to sweets, Bombay Sweet Shop also offers savouries like Masala Puri, Multigrain Khakhra, and Banana Chips. The savouries are made using traditional Indian recipes and are perfect for snacking.

What sets Bombay Sweet Shop apart is its emphasis on creativity and innovation. The shop offers sweets in unique and exciting formats that are sure to impress. For example, the shop's Chocolate Dipped Gujiya is a modern take on the classic sweet, while the Date and Almond Barfi Bites are a delicious and healthy snack.

Bombay Sweet Shop's success is a testament to the power of innovation and creativity. By reimagining traditional Indian sweets and mithais, Sameer and Yash have created a shop that is unique, fun, and memorable.

Crushing the Covid-19 challenge

Initially, Bombay Sweet Shop faced several challenges, including declining sales and increasing competition, as the COVID-19 lockdowns kept people confined to their homes.

However, the founders found a solution by using Interakt, an end-to-end WhatsApp Business solution that helped them to integrate their website, e-store, and CRM software to create a flourishing online store on WhatsApp.

As per a source, with Interakt's help, Bombay Sweet Shop's revenue grew fourfold in just one year, making it one of the most successful mithai shops in India.

In conclusion, the Bombay Sweet Shop is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience authentic Indian sweets and mithais with a modern twist. With a range of products to suit every taste and occasion, the shop is sure to impress even the most discerning sweet tooth.

The shop's success shows that innovation and creativity are the keys to standing out in a crowded market, and it serves as an inspiration to all aspiring entrepreneurs.
