Jeff Bezos
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos says that to protect Earth and keep advancing as a civilization, people will one day have to move factories and heavy industry into space.
“We’re eventually gonna have to move all of our heavy industry off Earth,” he said.
He further adds, “It will happen. I know it sounds a little fantastical, maybe it sounds like science fiction to some degree, but it will happen,” he said.
Jeff Bezos Says Humanity Will Build Factories and Data Centers in Space
Bezos, who also founded the space company Blue Origin, said that the shift toward space-based industry will take many generations. “It’s a job that I won’t finish. Probably my children’s children won’t finish. This is something that multiple generations will work on,” he said.
He explained that the first steps are already being taken. “We already put a lot of communications in space. We can start to build factories in space. We can start to build data centers in space,” he said.
Bezos added that in the future, the materials for these projects might come from the Moon, near-Earth objects, and asteroids rather than Earth itself.
He also said that space offers endless energy and resources, which could support continued progress without damaging the planet. “We have unlimited energy in space and unlimited material resources in space,” he said.
Bezos Says Earth Is the Planet We Must Protect
Despite his focus on space, the Amazon founder made it clear that Earth remains at the heart of his vision. “This planet is so beautiful and so unusual. This is the one that we’re gonna want to protect. There’s no plan B,” he said.
He reminded people that while robotic probes have visited every other planet, Earth is still the only one that can sustain life. “We have sent robotic probes to every planet. This is the good one,” he said.
Bezos believes that moving heavy industry into space will help keep Earth clean, safe, and full of life. For him, space is not an escape — it’s a way to make sure our planet stays the best home humanity has.
