The company, started by ex-ISRO engineers, says it is ready to take a big step toward making satellite launches more affordable and frequent for both Indian and global clients.

India’s first commercial rocket launch plans

Skyroot Aerospace confirmed that its first commercial rocket will be ready for launch by January 2026. The company has already completed successful test flights, including the Vikram-S launch in 2022 — India’s first private rocket launch. The new mission will move Skyroot from testing to full commercial operations, carrying small satellites for paying clients.

Pawan Chandana, CEO of Skyroot, said, “Making a single rocket takes about eight to nine months and costs $2–3 million. Our revenue expectation per launch is about double that.”

Skyroot plans to start with one launch every three months and later increase to one per month by 2027.

So far, the company has raised about $95 million (around ₹850 crore) from investors. It plans to use this funding to expand rocket production and improve launch facilities.

According to a report , the first few launches will focus on building reliability before expanding operations. The company expects to earn around $5 million per launch once regular missions begin.

About Skyroot Aerospace

Skyroot Aerospace was founded in 2018 by former ISRO engineers Pawan Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka. The company builds small and medium-lift rockets designed to carry satellites into orbit at lower cost and in less time compared to traditional launch providers.

By focusing on affordable and frequent launches, Skyroot has become a leading example of how private companies can contribute to India’s growing space economy.

The country’s private space sector now has more than 200 startups and is expected to reach $44 billion by 2033. Skyroot’s upcoming mission is set to play an important role in strengthening India’s position in global commercial space launches.
