Jio, Airtel and Vi
Telecom operators Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) are preparing to increase mobile plan prices by around 10 percent.
The new rates are expected to come into effect from December 2025. The companies are reviewing their tariff structures to improve revenue and manage rising costs related to 5G services and network maintenance.
Why Are Jio, Airtel and Vi Planning a Tariff Hike?
India has long been known for offering some of the cheapest mobile data rates in the world. While this has benefited consumers, it has limited the profits of telecom companies. With growing expenses for network maintenance and the rollout of 5G services, operators are now preparing to revise their prices.
Industry sources have indicated that Jio, Airtel and Vi are planning a tariff hike of around 10 percent. In some cases, the increase could go up to 25 percent depending on the plan. Reports also suggest that the 2 GB per day plan with 84 days of validity, which currently costs less, could soon be priced between ₹949 and ₹999.
Experts believe this decision aims to raise the average revenue per user (ARPU). A higher ARPU helps telecom providers maintain service quality, improve connectivity and continue investing in faster networks.
What the Price Hike Means for Consumers
The increase will affect both prepaid and postpaid customers. For example, a plan currently priced at ₹719 could rise to around ₹799. Even the most basic recharge plans may see a small increase in cost.
Telecom companies are likely to add more data or entertainment benefits to justify the higher prices. However, the impact will still be felt, especially among users who rely on affordable plans.
Experts expect the new prices to be implemented between December 2025 and mid-2026. Customers who wish to save money can choose to recharge their plans in advance before the higher rates take effect.
