Jaipur install street air purifiers
Jaipur has installed India’s first outdoor street air purifiers as pollution levels climbed in early November 2025.
The devices were set up at busy areas like Rambagh Circle and Ajmeri Gate to reduce PM2.5 and PM10 particles. While officials see this as a step toward cleaner air, experts and locals question how much difference it will make.
Jaipur’s Street Air Purifiers Aim to Reduce Pollution
On November 12, 2025, Jaipur city authorities placed tall, tower-like air purifiers at key locations including Rambagh Circle and Ajmeri Gate. Each unit is designed to filter air in a small area of 40-50 feet around it. The initiative follows trials in Delhi and other countries to manage street-level pollution during traffic hours and dust-heavy months.
Experts, however, warn that these purifiers alone cannot solve the city’s pollution problem.
“These machines may help in one spot, but the main causes like vehicle smoke, industrial emissions, and stubble burning must be controlled for real results,” said an environmental expert.
During this time, Jaipur’s AQI reached 177, indicating moderate pollution.
Social Media Questions the Effectiveness of Street Air Purifiers
The new street purifiers quickly caught attention on X (formerly Twitter). Many users criticized the idea, suggesting that planting more trees could be a better solution.
One user wrote, “Plant more trees instead!! Installing purifier and cutting trees.”
Another said, “These small purifiers are not enough. Real clean air needs bigger steps like controlling traffic and industries.”
Several others noted the cost and long-term usefulness of the project. Many called for natural solutions such as urban trees, vertical gardens, and better pollution rules.
While Jaipur’s street air purifiers mark a first in India, experts emphasize that lasting change will come from reducing pollution at its source, not just filtering small areas of air.
