In a world where electric vehicles are gaining ground, BMW has stepped up with the CE 02, their first made-in-India electric two-wheeler. This unique offering straddles the line between an electric scooter and a motorcycle, appealing to urban riders seeking a stylish and futuristic mode of transportation.
The BMW CE 02 breaks away from traditional scooter and motorcycle design, embracing a minimalistic yet futuristic look that sets it apart from other two-wheelers.
The design
With sharp angles, a single-sided swingarm, and fat tires, the CE 02 boasts a distinctive aesthetic that caters to the younger generation of riders.
Equipped with the Highline Pack, the CE 02 exudes style with details such as a gold anodized USD fork, teal stickering, a tri-colored seat, heated grips, and a smartphone holder.
LED elements on the headlight, indicators, and DRL create a unique light signature, making the CE 02 stand out on the streets like a concept bike.
Tech-savvy features
The CE 02 sports a 3.5-inch TFT screen that offers a crisp and clear layout, allowing riders to stay connected on the go. With the option to mount your phone onto the bike and connect it via BMW's app, controlling features through the switchgear becomes seamless. Additionally, the CE 02 comes with heated grips, although this feature may seem unnecessary in the Indian climate.
Powered by two 1.96kWh batteries, the CE 02 boasts a peak output of 11kW (15hp) and 55Nm, positioning it as an electric alternative to a 200cc motorcycle. It accelerates quickly and effortlessly, reaching a claimed top speed of 95kph.

3 riding modes
Also, the CE 02 offers three riding modes - Flow, Surf, and Flash, each tweaking throttle response and regen levels for a customized riding experience.
Despite its weight of 142kg, the CE 02 feels light and agile, making it ideal for riding on busy city streets. The Michelin City Grip tires provide excellent grip, while the brakes offer ample stopping power.
However, the lack of rear ABS and a firm suspension setup may pose challenges for newer riders.
The price tag
Priced at Rs 4.50 lakh, the BMW CE 02 falls on the higher end of the spectrum, appealing to premium buyers who value brand image and futuristic design. It may not fit neatly into the categories of electric scooters or motorcycles, but for short city commutes, the CE 02 offers a funky and futuristic alternative.
