Andhra Pradesh is aiming to emerge as a national leader in the space and defence sector through two major initiatives, the development of a Space City in Tirupati and defence manufacturing hubs in Madakasira, with a total investment of ₹3,400 crore.
These twin projects are designed to elevate the status of Andhra Pradesh in global space technology and strengthen India’s defence self-reliance.
Key Partners of the Project
In alliance with Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace, founded by former ISRO scientists, the upcoming Space City in Tirupati will involve an investment of ₹400 crore focused on private satellite launches and affordable small launch vehicles.
With ISRO’s Propulsion Complex already situated in Tirupati, the city offers an outstanding strategic advantage for establishing integrated launch facilities, supporting India’s expanding presence in the global commercial space sector.
Simultaneously, two defence manufacturing hubs are also being developed in Madakasira with a ₹3,000 crore investment, focusing primarily on aerospace components, defence electronics, and weapons systems.
Strengths of the Space City
These hubs are projected to create thousands of jobs, draw in MSMEs, and foster partnerships with international defence firms.
These twin projects will also align with India’s defence corridor initiatives, enhancing the country’s military production capabilities.
Highlighting the state’s vision, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that the projects reflect Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to “leverage science and technology for economic growth, create world-class infrastructure for private space ventures, and strengthen India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.”
With the combined initiatives, Andhra Pradesh is poised to boost exports, attract foreign investment, and build a robust ecosystem of startups, research institutions, and advanced manufacturing.
