Ashwini Vaishnaw urges industries to focus on 3 key areas

Speaking at an industry event, the Minister said shifting geo-economic trends and growing geopolitical uncertainties require manufacturers to build resilient supply chains and invest in high-skill design teams.

According to Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Indian industries need to focus on 3 key areas:

1. Developing strong design teams.

2. Achieving Six Sigma quality for all ‘Made in Bharat’ products.

3. Promoting Swadeshi - supporting indigenous suppliers to move up the value chain.

He urged electronics manufacturers to achieve six-sigma quality across product lines, adding, “Your ability to control your supply chain will determine your resilience during challenging times.”

He further encouraged large companies to support smaller players in moving up the value chain to enhance overall ecosystem strength, saying, “Make sure that you hold hands and get them up the value chain. That will define your success in the coming years.”

“With schemes like the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), India could attract some of the large manufacturers of finished products into the country, thereby creating the market and demand for components,” Minister Vaishnaw added.

He mentioned focusing on a set of components which are very critical for the long-term growth of the electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

Industries rising quality standards

The Minister pointed to rising quality standards in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, crediting new institutions designed to help MSMEs meet global benchmarks.

Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran’s recently launched quality organisation is expected to support this transition.

Vaishnaw remarked that the Centre is finalising a new skilling framework for electronics manufacturing, which will collaborate with social sector organisations to train young workers to build India’s future talent.
